Words Unspoken

To the clients I see in my office everyday to try to bridge the gap between you.

Everyday I reflect that if only so many words did not remain unspoken there would be so much less suffering. Here are the words that remain unspoken between couples and between parents and children every single minute of every single day….

I am sorry that I…

I love you…

I care about you…

I wish I could help you out…

I wish that I didn’t have to say no..

I wish that I could hold you but my back is hurting.

I wish I didn’t have to go on the business trip.

I wish I could afford to buy you the gift that you want.

I wish we had more time together.

You are my everything.

You’re my world.

I wish I didn’t just yell at you.

I am sorry that I can’t go to….

I am sorry that I don’t have time for…

I am sorry that I wasn’t there for you when…

I am sorry that I failed you when..

I am sorry that you are struggling with…I wish there was something that I could do.

I am here for you.

We will get through this.

Is there anything that I can do to help?

There are no words but I love you or I am here for you.

My heart is with you.

I wish we would all slow down and fill the wounds by saying the words that need to be said, even when we don’t have answers or solutions even when we are afraid of upsetting our loved ones and we want to avoid pain. We all know that avoidance causes so much more pain in the long run.  If we would say more thoughtful intentional words to protect the hearts of our loved ones, we would all shed less tears..
